Presentation: Utah’s Transcontinental Railroad History
Historian and NWPRRHS member Michael Polk will discuss the beginnings of the Transcontinental Railroad including construction details. His talk will focus on the line from Ogden to the Utah-Nevada border from 1869 to 1942 and how that line has, more recently, been protected by legislation and preservation programs. He’ll discuss the history of the 53 stations that once existed along the line with specific focus on a few of the more important ones. Michael will have slides to share as well, many of which were used in his recently published book Rails East to Ogden: Utah’s Transcontinental Railroad Story.
Light refreshments will be served half-way through the program. Also, many NWP items will be available for purchase. Everyone is welcome and there is no admission charge.
Doors at 6:30 p.m., program at 7:00 p.m.
