SUMMARY:April 13 Presentation at San Rafael: "The North Pacific Coast Railroad"
DESCRIPTION:As early as the 1880s\, Marin residents could commute from San Rafael to San Francisco via narrow gauge trains and connecting ferries\, while adventurous San Franciscans could take weekend excursions to bustling resort areas such as Tomales Bay\, Camp Meeker and Cazadero. \nNWPRRHS member and historian Rick Coates will explain the colorful history of the North Pacific Coast Railroad including related stories and commentary\, with plenty of historic photos! There is a fascinating background story behind the rise and fall of this early narrow gauge railroad and why it was so important to the future of Marin and Sonoma Counties. \nJoin us Monday\, April 13th\, 2026 at the San Rafael Community Center – 618 B Street\, San Rafael. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.\, and the program begins at 7:00 p.m. FREE and open to the public but donations gratefully accepted to cover costs. Length is approx. 2 hours overall with intermission.
