It was part of the Santa Fe’s contribution to the newly formed NWP.  Its roadbed stretched into the timber lands via the Albion and Navarro rivers. Logs were first hauled to the Albion Mill for cutting into green and dried lumber.  Later the in-land Navarro Mill was built and its lumber products shipped via the Albion Railroad to Albion. Lumber was shipped from Albion by ocean-going vessels to markets to the south.
