SUMMARY:Quarterly Presentation at Santa Rosa - Monroe Hall  Oct. 27
DESCRIPTION:Charlie Siebenthal will discuss the history of the Albion Branch of the Northwestern Pacific Railroad with pictures and maps from the NWPRRHS Archive. \nThe NWP inherited the Albion branch in 1906. It was part of the Santa Fe’s contribution to the newly formed NWP.  Its roadbed stretched into the timber lands via the Albion and Navarro rivers. Logs were first hauled to the Albion Mill for cutting into green and dried lumber.  Later the in-land Navarro Mill was built and its lumber products shipped via the Albion Railroad to Albion. Lumber was shipped from Albion by ocean-going vessels to markets to the south. The railroad was equipped with a novel and diverse loco roster. \nCoffee and conversation at 7:30 p.m. The program begins at 8:00.  Open to the public\, bring a friend or two.  Donations are greatly appreciated.

SUMMARY:Presentation: Utah's Transcontinental Railroad History
DESCRIPTION:Historian and NWPRRHS member Michael Polk will discuss the beginnings of the Transcontinental Railroad including construction details. His talk will focus on the line from Ogden to the Utah-Nevada border from 1869 to 1942 and how that line has\, more recently\, been protected by legislation and preservation programs. He’ll discuss the history of the 53 stations that once existed along the line with specific focus on a few of the more important ones. Michael will have slides to share as well\, many of which were used in his recently published book Rails East to Ogden: Utah’s Transcontinental Railroad Story. \nLight refreshments will be served half-way through the program. Also\, many NWP items will be available for purchase. Everyone is welcome and there is no admission charge. \nDoors at 6:30 p.m.\, program at 7:00 p.m. \n

DESCRIPTION:The Sonoma Valley branch of the Northwestern Pacific went through a succession of names and gauges and even a short time as a mono rail. It was never heavily patronized for any length of time but it was the key which opened the door to the economic development of the Sonoma Valley. It also had a competitor which laid its track in parallel. It was never heavily patronized for any length of time but it was the key which opened the door to the economic development of the Sonoma Valley. It also had a competitor which laid its track in parallel.
